Burdette "Bud" Kenneth Bostrom, of Richmond, Va., died Dec. 9, 2010, at the Westport Health Care Center.
Mr. Bostrom was born Sept. 22, 1925, in James-town, N.Y., to parents Aaron and Anna Bostrom, both originally from Sweden.
He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1944, then joined the U.S. Navy, and attended the University of Rochester with the ROTC. He transferred to the University of Virginia and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. In June 1946, he married
Shirley Mae Gronquist, who currently resides at the Westport Health Care Center.
He retired in 1986 as the vice president/secretary/treasurer of Dahlstrom Mfg. Co, where he was employed for 42 years.
He was a member of Pilgrim Memorial Church in Jamestown, N.Y., and served as president, financial secretary and Sunday School teacher for 17 years. He also served as president for five years at the Nobleton Community Church in Nobleton, Fla.
While living in Jamestown, Bud served on the Board of Directors at the YMCA, the Boys Club, and the United Way. He also served as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the National Association of Accountants. Bud and Shirley moved to Richmond, Va., in 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; four daughters; Susan Hayes and husband, James Hayes of Disputanta, Va., Bonnie Gilbert and husband, Gregg Gilbert of Glen Allen, Va., Janet Bostrom and husband, Tom Hewitt of Scotts Valley, Calif., and daughter, Mary Bostrom of McGaheysville, Va. In addition to his wife and four daughters are granddaughters: Leah Gilbert Blackburn, Molly Gilbert Currin, Rachel Ezrati Wilson and Erin Colligan Lee. Grandsons are: Joseph Ezrati and Benjamin Colligan. Great-grandchildren are: Grace and Arthur Wilson, Ethan and Piper Blackburn, and Parker, Halle and Audrey Currin. He also has two surviving brothers: Roland Bostrom of Reston, Va., and Lawrence Bostrom of Marlborough, Conn.
